About the Writer

Hello! I’m Heather Black. I live, work and play in wonderful Portland, Oregon. I enjoy writing all kinds of stuff … copywriting, technical writing and resume writing. Also, I’m an aspiring author.

Here’s a bit more about me:

* I have a Bachelors of Science in Dietetics (also known as nutrition). For someone who didn’t like science, this was an odd degree to get. I immersed myself in chemistry, biology, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, statistics, technical writing … oh yeah, and nutrition classes. I learned to love science.

* After getting my degree, I became a food technologist. I did a LOT of persuasive and technical writing (writing reports, letters, manuals and proposals; rewriting and reformatting poorly written reports). Also, I have had a few opportunities to sway the outcome on contracts worth millions of dollars.

* I’m a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist. Which is a good thing … I know how to prevent carpal tunnel “writing” syndrome. I’m also a certified canine massage therapist.

* I’ve worked at a day spa as a massage therapist. Challenging, fun and exhausting.

* I’m a research goddess! Similar to a treasure hunt, research helps me “discover” juicy tidbits – making my writing more compelling to the reader.

* I love to travel. My first solo trip was to Ireland – and I brought my bike with me. It was terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. Nothing is more exciting than to immerse myself in a new place – expanding my mind – meeting new people.

* I’m a great believer in natural therapies. I’m one of millions of people who have benefited through natural healing.

* I’m into self-help (workshops, books, CDs). I continually make important changes in my life.

* I use my persuasive skills for writing powerful resumes. I have a natural talent for uncovering dream careers - and provide the necessary coaching support to make the dream a reality.

* And most important of all … I love writing and dreaming up fresh ideas.
